Frances of Rome was first a mother and wife. With her family members, she cared for the poor during a famine in Rome. She used all her resources to provide for them, and when those were depleted, she went begging for assistance.
She lived a life of prayer and penance. After her husband’s death, she entered a community of women who took no vows: the Oblates of Mary. They offered themselves in service to God and the poor.
She is a firm reminder that we are all called to serve God in every aspect of life.
One of her famous quotes:
A married woman must, when called upon, leave her devotions to God at the altar to find him in her household affairs.
Happy Feast Day to all Benedictine Oblates!
